Description
A matched pair of round natural abalone pearls, each 9mm and chosen to sit together in harmony, makes up these 14K yellow gold earrings. Abalone pearls form inside wild abalone in the cold Pacific waters off Mendocino, California, and they’re among the rarest of all natural pearls. Even as a pair, each pearl keeps its own swirl of blue, green and silver iridescence, so the two catch the light in slightly different ways as they move.
Finding two abalone pearls that complement one another this well is no small thing, which is part of why this pair, handcrafted by Richard Lewis in his Santa Rosa studio, is one of a kind. Abalone pearls are organic and comparatively soft, so look after these earrings gently: keep them away from perfume, hairspray and household chemicals, never clean them in an ultrasonic machine, and store them apart from harder stones that could scratch their glow.
