A round natural abalone pearl, a generous 14mm in diameter, forms the center of this 14K yellow gold pendant, partnered with a 0.14 carat sapphire measuring 3mm across. Abalone pearls come from wild abalone in the cold Pacific waters off Mendocino, California, and they count among the rarest of all natural pearls. Across this large round surface the color shifts freely, blues melting into greens and silvers as the light catches it, a display that belongs to this pearl alone.
The sapphire’s saturated color plays against the pearl’s softer shimmer, framed by warm yellow gold. Richard Lewis handcrafts each pendant in Santa Rosa, and the one you receive can never be exactly matched. Abalone is an organic, delicate gem, so care matters: keep it away from perfume, hairspray and household chemicals, avoid ultrasonic cleaners, and store it separately from harder stones to keep its iridescence intact.
