Abalone Pearl Pendant in 14K Yellow Gold with Sapphire accent

The natural abalone pearl in this pendant is an oval of 15 by 17mm, broad enough to show the full sweep of its blue, green and silver iridescence. Abalone pearls are formed by wild abalone in the cold Pacific waters off Mendocino, California, and they remain among the rarest natural pearls found anywhere. Beside the pearl sits a 0.11-carat sapphire, 3mm across, its rich hue accenting the pearl’s shifting color, with the whole pendant crafted in warm 14K yellow gold.

No two abalone pearls are alike, so this piece, handcrafted by Richard Lewis in his California studio, is one of a kind. Abalone is an organic gem, softer than crystalline stones, so it rewards a gentle touch: keep it away from perfume, hairspray and chemicals, never put it through an ultrasonic cleaner, and store it on its own, away from harder jewelry that could scratch it.
