Description
A petite 1.96-carat Ethiopian opal, cut as a pear measuring 12 by 9 millimeters, brings the vivid color these stones are known for into a small, wearable form. Even at this modest scale, the play-of-color flashes a bright, shifting spectrum across the stone, livelier the closer you look. A tiny 0.02-carat diamond, just 1.5 millimeters across, adds a pinpoint of sparkle, and the pairing is set in warm 14K yellow gold. Like all of Richard Lewis’s work, this piece is made by hand and has no exact twin.
The pendant hangs as a dainty focal drop, its small pear shape lending a soft line. To keep the Ethiopian opal’s bright color, treat it gently as you would any fine natural stone. Keep it away from ultrasonic cleaners and hard knocks, and wipe it now and then with a soft, damp cloth.
