Description
This 2.62-carat opal comes from Ethiopia and is cut as a clean 10-millimeter round. The circular form gives the play-of-color a balanced field to fill, flashing a bright, shifting spectrum that moves with the light. A 0.03-carat diamond rests above the stone in its own 14K white gold bezel, a cool touch of contrast against the warm 14K yellow gold that frames the opal. Richard Lewis handcrafts each one, so this pendant is one of a kind.
The round opal and bezel-set diamond make a tidy, symmetrical drop that hangs nicely at the throat. Ethiopian opal, like its Australian cousins, rewards gentle handling: avoid ultrasonic cleaners and hard knocks, and simply wipe the stone with a soft, damp cloth to keep its color bright.
