Description
This 2.71-carat Coober Pedy opal is cut as a softly rounded pear, 14 by 10 millimeters, with the shifting spectrum the South Australian fields are known for. Its play-of-color rolls from shoulder to point, changing character as the light moves around it. A single 0.03-carat diamond rests above the stone in its own 14K white gold bezel, a cool flash against the warm 14K yellow gold that holds the opal. Each piece Richard Lewis makes is one of a kind, and this pear carries its own pattern of fire.
The opal pendant hangs as a balanced focal drop, the white-gold-set diamond adding a tailored finish above the lively opal. As with all natural opals, a little care keeps it brilliant: avoid ultrasonic cleaners and hard knocks, and simply wipe it with a soft, damp cloth.
