Description
This 4.44-carat Coober Pedy opal is one of the larger stones in the collection, a freeform measuring 22 by 13 millimeters. Its broad, irregular surface gives the play-of-color room to roam, flashing a shifting spectrum that seems to rearrange itself with every glance. A single 0.04-carat diamond adds a fine point of brightness beside it, the pairing set in warm 14K yellow gold. Richard Lewis handcrafts this opal pendant, the product of one stone and one maker, so it can’t be repeated.
The pendant’s size and rolling color make it a focal piece. Like all natural opals, it does best with gentle care: keep it clear of ultrasonic cleaners and hard knocks, and an occasional wipe with a soft, damp cloth will keep its fire bright for years.
