This sterling silver ring is built around a 2.68-carat Ethiopian opal, a sweeping oval stone that measures 12 by 8mm. It fills the hand with the vivid, bright play-of-color Ethiopian opals are known for, its surface alive with greens, oranges and blues that rearrange themselves as you move. The sterling silver setting keeps the focus on that shifting color.

Like all of Richard Lewis’s work, this ring is handcrafted in his studio and exists as a single, unrepeatable piece. It comes in US ring sizes 6.25 to 10.25. Opal is comparatively soft and rewards a gentle touch, so steer clear of ultrasonic cleaners and hard knocks, and wipe it clean with a soft cloth. Ethiopian opal also tends to absorb liquids, so keep it away from prolonged water and oils.
