This sterling silver ring holds a 10mm round abalone pearl, pulled from the surf at Shelter Cove on California’s remote Lost Coast, one of the few stretches of shoreline where these natural pearls turn up. At this size the stone is easy and wearable, the kind of ring you reach for any day. Richard Lewis handcrafts each one in Santa Rosa, and the plain silver setting frames the pearl without competing, so its natural color play stays out front.

Every abalone pearl forms on its own terms, so the iridescent pattern here repeats nowhere else and the ring is one of a kind. It’s made in solid sterling silver and comes in US ring sizes 6 through 10. Like all natural pearls, abalone is soft and organic, so keep it clear of perfume, hairspray and household chemicals, never use an ultrasonic cleaner, and tuck it away from harder gems.
