Scale is the story here. A large freeform natural abalone pearl, 19 by 13mm, makes this ring a real presence on the hand. It came from the cold Pacific off Mendocino, California, and the pearl keeps its bold, irregular natural shape, its broad surface washed with blue, green and silver that shifts as the light moves. Richard Lewis makes every piece by hand in his Santa Rosa studio, and a stone of this size and form is impossible to repeat, so yours is one of a kind.

The sterling silver setting is kept deliberately simple, giving the pearl all the room it needs. This ring comes in US sizes 6 through 10. With a pearl this large, gentle care matters. As an organic gem it should be kept away from perfume, hairspray, household chemicals and ultrasonic cleaners, and stored apart from harder stones to protect its surface.
